Taking great landscapes is much more about adopting a scientific approach than many other types of photography are.
We pass by landscapes, or cityscapes, everyday and often give the view no more than a glance. Yet there are subjects for great photographs all around.
Sure there are the outstanding views that require a lot of advanced planning and effort, going up a mountain to catch the dawn sun is one example, but many other views are right on your doorstep.
Picking a spot, setting up your gear, choosing the right settings, getting the timing right and checking the weather are all parts of the successful landscape photograper's kit.
